The title of the Leo Brouwer work on this program is explained at Naxos.com: “Written in 2004, La ciudad de las columnas (The City of Columns), a nickname for Havana, is an evocative musical journey of various landmarks and images of the Cuban capital.”

performs works from renowned composers including
John Dowland “Lachrimae Pavan,” Joaquin Malats
“Serenata Espanola,” Jaoquin Rodrigo “Fandango” and
Leo Brouwer “La ciudad de las Columnas.”
After intermission, João is joined by
Jen-Hsuan Liao (viola)
and
Min Hee Kim (flute) for a concert featuring
works from Hispanic composers including Leo Brouwer
“Paisagens, Retratos y Mujeres,”
Sergio Assad “Menino,”
and Astor Piazzolla “Three Tangos” (arranged by João Luiz).
