Charles Kaufmann: 'Hiawatha in Washington, D. C., November 1903 and August 2012 '

Charles Kaufmann, Director of The Longfellow Chorus of Portland, Maine, writes:

Hello, All,

As the BBC presents Samuel Coleridge-Taylor as composer of the week, The Longfellow Chorus contributes its own selection to the play list: the opening of Hiawatha's Wedding Feast as sung on August 6, 2012, in the Metropolitan AME Church in Washington, DC, by the Washington division of The Longfellow Chorus. This is a recreation of the 1903 concert in the same space by the Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Choral Society—'outtake' from our documentary in the making:

[Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912) is profiled at AfriClassical.com, which features a comprehensive Works List and a Bibliography by Prof. Dominique-René de Lerma, www.CasaMusicaledeLerma.com. We are collaborating with the Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Foundation of the U.K., www.SCTF.org.uk]
