Sergio A. Mims: Conductor Brandon Keith Brown appointed Music Director & Conductor of Third Street Music School's Philharmonia Orchestra in New York City

Conductor Brandon Keith Brown has been appointed Music Director and Conductor of the Philharmonia Orchestra of Third Street, the oldest community music school in the United States.  Brandon Keith Brown is a Mendelssohn Scholarship winner and Kurt Masur protégé.

Maestro Brown’s appointment comes as the Third Street Music School Settlement, founded in 1894, enters its 120th anniversary celebration.  Featured events will include special concerts, performances and community activities through June 2015.  In addition to the Philharmonia Orchestra, Third Street offerings includes early childhood and preschool programs, after-school and Saturday programs for children and teens, and daytime and evening programs for adults.

"Performance is at the very heart of the Third Street experience, and Brandon will play a vital role in helping our performance ensembles to grow, flourish, and connect with our community," said Valerie Lewis, executive director of Third Street Music School Settlement. "We are excited to welcome to our ranks a conductor with Brandon's energy and his passion for developing new audiences, one who will inspire and educate audiences and young people from both on and off the podium."
